The European Recycling Platform
The European Recycling Platform (ERP) was created in 2002 as the first ever pan-European take back scheme to effectively implement the European Union's Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE) Directive.
The mission of ERP is to ensure cost-effective implementation of the WEEE Directive, for the benefit of member companies, their customers, the consumers and ultimately for the environment and society.
ERP develops and operates a common waste management procurement platform designed:
- to meet the specific requirements of electrical and electronic producers
- to promote cost-efficient and innovative recycling strategies, while actively embracing the concept of individual producer responsibility as set out in the EU Directive.
- to open up opportunities for pan-European recycling services and cross-border competition in the waste management service market.
ERP can offer compliance directly in 10 countries (Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain and the UK), and in 20 additional countries through the Europe Plus package.
Since September 2008, ERP also offers battery take-back.
